Processing...

Really I am. A little writing here and there. A lot of fretting over the day job.

I walked through a big box book store the other day and was surprised at what I found. A scifi section that hadn't seemed to have changed, and a new fantasy section which was at least three times larger. In terms of where the market is for the types of things I write, that was a sea change. I was also a little annoyed that they weren't intermingled as they had been my whole lives. I intermingle them in my writing so...

Ok, so perhaps I should be focusing a bit on fantasy. That would mean the big one is straight out. It's "magical" aspects are incomprehensible tech so not really magic, just futuristic. Another is set in lots of fantasy inspired places but is also very furturistic and a bit mind bending. I could see aspects of it appealing to fantasy writers. A crossover as it were.

The other one though... Not really a story yet. A very promising collection of unexpected characters trapped in a dangerous but wonderously magical place. Modern era setting, 12k words and there's even a visit with a dragon of sorts and I consider having a newly hatched dragon as the main character's familiar. What do I want to do with them though? What larger stories can I embroil them in?

And so I sit processing...
